Today I bring you one atypical review that includes a short story about free radicals and antioxidants plus one experiment. :)

Caudalie Polyphenol [C15]

Anti-Wrinkle Defense Serum

It is created to correct existing wrinkles and to prevent the formation of new ones. It is 100% antioxidant, and contains the following active ingredients: concentrated polyphenols, stabilized vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

It comes in a glass bottle with a pipette. Its lightweight texture absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a trace on the surface, which I really liked. It is usually recommended to use the serum alone or with a cream, but here it’s indicated that it is necessary to apply it under a cream. I agree with that, because it’s not moisturizing enough, especially for this time of the year. It is recommended to apply it in the morning and the evening to face and neck. As for the results, I noticed that my skin looks fresher and radiant.

Anti-Wrinkle Eye and Lip Cream

It has a lightweight, gel texture. It is designed for removing dark circles and wrinkles. It contains the following active ingredients: stabilized vitamin C, polyphenols and Matrixyl 3000. It is recommended to apply it every morning and evening to the area around eyes and lips. As soon as the cream is applied, the skin becomes very smooth. I’ve noticed filling effect of wrinkles, especially around the lips.

Therefore, the current results were visible in terms of smoothing the skin. When it comes to dark circles, I didn’t notice any changes.

I had been testing them for a month and I got some minor positive results. However, these products are primarily designed to reduce wrinkles, so it is really difficult to make the final conclusion on such type of products. Generally, if these kind of products are good quality products, they usually improve the overall appearance of the skin, but wrinkles are never removed, and we cannot know will the use of certain product prevent the creation of new. The real question is what happens at the micro level of the skin when we use creams and serums.

It is stated that this serum is 100% antioxidant, so I focused on testing the accuracy of this important information. You’ve probably heard that antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals that cause premature aging. Free radicals affect the formation of wrinkles and allegedly they cause 4 out of 5 wrinkles.

For a better understanding of the story, let’s return for a moment to school…

Free radicals are unstable, positively charged molecules that are searching for negatively charged particles, electrons, in order to get neutralized. The problem is that these molecules are stealing electrons from the stable molecules making them unstable, which means – making them free radicals. Then they go in search of an electron, to get stabilized, and so the series continues. It can be prevented by the intervention of antioxidants. The antioxidants are electron-donor molecules. They neutralize free radicals by giving them their electron.

Free radicals negatively affect the proteins of the skin. Also, when (by oxidation) free radicals take electrons of other molecules, the surface of a slice of an apple turns brown.

So, to neutralize them, we need antioxidants. I cannot know will this serum prevent the formation of wrinkles on my skin, but I can do a little experiment and apply it on a slice of an apple to see what will happen. I saw the photo of such experiment on Caudalie official website, so I decided to test this claim, not just to blindly believe in the photo.

I had applied the serum just on the right slice of apple, and then left both slices to settle in the air. The left side immediately started to brown, while the right side was more resistant. This picture was captured after 2 hours of exposure to the air. After more hours, both sides got brown, but right slice was always a bit fresher. Thus, the result showed the positive effect of the serum! Of course, the experiment was not made in laboratory settings and it is certain that various factors could influence the result, but the antioxidants from the serum still managed to demonstrate their effectiveness. This certainly gives confidence in the use of this serum. Now we can expect that the regular use of such product really can slow the aging process of the skin.

  1. would love to try the eye cream and serum to fight free radicals but more often than not these products are too rich for my skin. Thanks for your detailed explanations about free radicals :)

  2. I’ve not tried this brand before, but after reading it I really want to try their products! I really like how you inserted information about radicals etc – I’ve completely forgotten what I learnt at school hahaa :p x

  3. Great post & review! I’ve never heard of Caudalie before, looks like a great product although I never bother using beauty products that help reduce wrinkles, I always feel I’m too young to worry yet haha.
£26 would be out of my price range too.

  4. Never heard of this brand before, I don’t think I can get it in my local stores either. Its a pity that it doesn’t work for dark rings. I’ve been looking for a good one for dark rings but yet to find any till date.
